This post and the start of this newsletter are long overdue. Traditional social media isn’t working for me anymore. I’ve been looking for new ways to share and discuss my work, and while I’m not new to Substack (I’ve occasionally been publishing MeanHighWater), the time feels right to start this newsletter. I hope it becomes a regularly published update, but I’m not setting specific metrics or goals.
This almost feels like a return to my WordPress blog of the early 2010s, which was eventually replaced by my Instagram account. Instagram has been my main tool for sharing, and I plan to continue to share there, but the Instagram experience has changed and my use of it has steadily decreased. I’m looking forward to exploring what this newsletter can become and posting long(er) form content here. I’m also exploring other avenues including the new Foto app, VSCO, and my portfolio website. Thanks for following along.
A long December weekend in NYC
A late fall trip to NYC has become a tradition since 2016. There’s something magical about the City this time of year, and I’m grateful to have made it up again in 2024.
The itinerary for this trip included several photo- and pizza-centric stops and a lot of street photography.
Old Town Bar & Restaurant, Flatiron - Old Town has become a tradition - a required stop every time I’m in the city.
Life Dances On: Robert Frank in Dialogue - MoMA (through 01.11.25)
Upside Pizza, Garment District
Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club - a great production, powerful story, and apt warning about conformity in the face of authoritarianism set in 1930’s Berlin
Frankel’s Deli, Greenpoint - probably the best bagel I had in ‘24!
We Are Here: Scenes from the Streets - International Center for Photography (through 01.06.25)
Chrissy’s Pizza, Greenpoint - takeaway pies with amazing crust!
